PROGRAMME

The 2012 International Research Conference on Short Sea Shipping Conference Proceedings will be issued as a CD-Rom which will be available during the Conference.

Conference Proceedings will be in electronic format registered with ISBN.

The Conference is to take place in Estoril, one of the beautiful Lisbon surroundings which is about is 30 km from the airport, and is close to the main junction of the main accesses to Lisbon-Cascais. The place has very good transport links and has good conditions to guarantee the success of the event. Delegates to the Conference may stay at hotels in Estoril or nearby in Cascais; there is a good rail connection between Estoril and Cascais but you can always travel by taxi. Cost of taxi is still reasonable in Portugal. Conference Hotel in Estoril is

Since it was built, the Hotel has welcomed famous visitors from around the world, including heads of state, film stars, sports personalities and royalty. During World War II, with Portugal’s neutrality, Estoril was a haven for European royalty, and became known as the “Coast of Kings”. The Hotel became the home to various royals and was frequented by both British and German spies, who often met for drinks at our Estoril Bar. The Hotel Palácio appeared in one of James Bond's first films ("On Her Majesty's Secret Service") and served as a backdrop for Richard Wilson's novel, "A Small Death in Lisbon.

How to arrive at the Hotel?
Ask taxi driver to use the highway A5 to Cascais. Take exit 9 Estoril/Alcoitão. Go straight through 1st and 2nd roundabouts and turn left at Avenida de Portugal. Go straight in the direction of Avenida Beatriz and Avenida da Marginal. At the end of Avenida Beatriz (just before Avenida da Marginal) keep right and turn to Rua Particular; hotel is located 100 meters, on the left hand side.

You have always the chance to pick up the bus and train to go from Lisbon Airport to Estoril. If this is your option, please use the following information:

Pick up Bus 91-Aerobus/Hotel Shuttle to the City Centre
Coaches leave from directly outside the door from arrivals. There are 2 bus stops just outside.
The Bus route is the following: Airport - Entrecampos station - Campo Pequeno - Av República - Saldanha - Picoas - Fontes Pereira Melo - Marqués Pombal - Av Liberdade - Restauradoras (for tourist office) - Rossio (in the city centre) - Praça da Comercio (for train services to the Algarve) and Cais Sodré (for trains to Estoril and Cascais).
On return to the airport, this bus drops off at departures, before going to arrivals.
Buses leave the airport every 20 minutes 0740-2045.
Trains to Estoril
In Cais Sodré, pick up the train to Cascais (see map below) and leave the train at Estoril train station. The train takes about 30 minutes, and it is a cheap way of getting from the airport. The train journey is a pleasant one as it goes by the river/sea.

Conference fee includes: attendance to all program sessions, luncheons and coffee breaks during the Conference, Conference material, and Certificate of attendance.

• Authors’ Conference registration is due on February 14, 2012.

• Delegates Conference registration is due on March 31, 2012.

Please make sure that full payment using one of the above mentioned methods has been accomplished by this date and that your name/affiliation details are clearly identified on the registration form. Please note that charges apply for each of the above payments and are not included in the Conference Registration Fee. The final amount to be transferred by using any of these methods must be the total amount calculated in the section concerning PAYMENT DECLARATION plus the charges applied.

WESTERN UNION
If Western Union is chosen, please notify Susana Rebocho (susana.rebocho@cargoedicoes.pt) and Ana Casaca (shortsea2012@gmail.com) that your Western Union transfer has been carried out and send us the Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN).
Make the transfer in the name of Ana Cristina Ferreira Castela Paixão Casaca, City: Lisboa, Country: Portugal (There is an WESTERN UNION Agency 100 metres away from Ana Casaca home).
Western Union charges will be paid by delegates to the Conference at their home Country, i.e. from which payment is originated. Please make sure your name is clearly indicated as well as the mention SSS2012.
Your Registration will be valid only after the Conference Secretary verifies the transaction success and confirms to you in writing.

PayPAL
In case payment is made by PayPAL, we will add charges to the invoice to be sent to you by email since these depend upon the country of origin.
For the EU and EEA Countries (Norway, Iceland and Lichenstein) the rate applied amounts to 3.4% of the total to be transferred plus a fixed rate of €0.35.
For the remaining Countries, the rate applied amounts to 3.9% of the total to be transferred plus a fixed rate of €0.35.
Please, to avoid an additional exchange rate tax of 2.5%, perform the payment in EUROS.
PayPAL allows the use of several bank debit/credit cards.
Your Registration will be valid only after the Conference Secretary verifies the transaction success and confirms to you in writing.

BANK TRANSFER PAYMENT
Bank Transfer carries additional charge and these are not included in the registration fees.
The final amount to be transferred must be the Conference Registration Fees plus any bank charges.
Please consult with your bank on the additional cost of bank transfers so that they are added to the Conference Registration Fees.
